Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you still have shares available?

A: Yes! We are currently accepting new members at the farm and at our Metro Boston pickup locations.  Our Fall Share starts September 1st and we are sigining people up now!

Q: Do I join for a season, or the full year?

The farm share runs year-round. We welcome you to sign up for a year-round share, or if you prefer, you can sign up for just one season. The “Local” season runs from June through November, the “East Coast” season runs from December through May. Priority for shares will be given to those who sign up for year-round memberships.
If you'd like to pay the full amount up-front for a year-round share, we offer a discount of $50 off.  Please note this doesn't apply to seasonal payments - only if you're paying for the entire year up-front. Contact us for further info.

Q: Is everything in the share organic?

The vast majority of the items included in each week’s share is certified organic. The only exception is if we aren’t able to source an organic item, and we can get that item locally grown but conventional from a farm that we know and trust in terms of their practices. We always notify members via the weeky e-newsletter when items in the share are not organic.

Q: What’s the difference between the Local and the East Coast shares?

Our Local Share runs through the summer and fall, we offer fruits and veggies from our farm as well as farms in our neighborhood. The East Coast Season starts in December and goes until the end of May.  We offer fruits and vegetables from farms along the East Coast (Prince Edward Island to Florida), as well as our farm and other local farms – everything comes from within 1,000 miles.  We always provide as much locally-grown produce as is available.

Q: Why is the East Coast Share more expensive than the Local Share?

For the East Coast Share almost all of the fruits and veggies in the share are purchased from other farms, so our costs are much higher than for the Local Season, when we grow almost everything in the share at our own farm.

Q: What other farms are growing produce for the share?

The local farms we work with include Four Star Farm in Northfield, Warner Farm in Sunderland, Atlas Farm in Deerfield, and Chamutka Farm and Nourse Farms, both in Whately. The East Coast farms include Eastern Carolina Organics and Lady Moon Farms.

Q: How does payment work?

We appreciate payment up-front for the the season, allowing us to focus on growing rather than administrative tasks. If this is not feasible for you, we also accept quarterly payment which are due April 1 and July 1 for the Local Season and November 1 and February 1 for the East Coast Season (if this doesn't work for you either, please contact us for other options).

Payment is by check or credit card (via PayPal). If you join in the middle of a season, your payments will be pro-rated -- you’ll only pay for the shares you receive (contact us for your pro-rated amount).

Q. Can I switch my share size?

A: Yes - contact us any time to change the size of your share and we’ll adjust your payments accordingly.

Q: I'm a customer in the metro Boston area, can I get some items in my box and not others?

A: No, unfortunately we’re not able to tailor boxes to individual requests at this time.

Q. What do I do if I can’t pick up my share?

By becoming a member of the farm share, you’re investing in the farm for the duration of your membership, and agreeing to pick up your share during the allocated time. Therefore we do not offer refunds if you’re not able to pick up your share. If you have a week when you’re unable to pick up your share, your options are:

  1. Ask a friend to pick it up for you (please have them check your name off the list)
  2. Notify us that you can't pick up, and your share will be donated.
  3. If you pick up your share at the farm and you contact us at least 24 hours in advance, we can set aside a share for you to pick up another day.

Q: I want to join, but the pick-up locations/times don't work for me -- do you offer delivery?

Yes! You can get Bicycle home delivery in the Boston area or in Northampton, there's more info here.

Q: What can I do with the box that my share comes in?

Unfortunately, the boxes that we use to pack shares cannot be recycled because of the wax coating. However, we can re-use them for the share, provided they're in good condition. If you fold the box, make sure not to rip any of the tabs on the top or bottom -- otherwise they can't be re-used. Empty boxes can be returned to all pick-up sites (in Fort Point and Cambridge, boxes can only be returned Thursday mornings; in Dedham, empty boxes should be left in the church garage). If you can fold them without ripping them, that helps us, too.
